A lot has been happening recently in the space industry and we look forward to what’s yet to come. Guest, Sue Nelson, joins the conversation today to share what she has been doing in the space industry in the realm of journalism, along with authorship of books and screenplays.
To kick off this conversation, Sue shares a bit about herself and being in the space business through reporting on missions and space science. With a background in physics and a love for science fiction, Sue tells us how she gravitated towards space work. She’s living the space dream! Clint and Andrew ask Sue to share some more specifics about what this looks like for her in going out to meet people and getting to see spacecraft for herself! While she shares that it’s been a struggle during the pandemic as they lacked face-to-face contact, she is getting back to enjoying the “backstage” benefits and explorations of being a journalist. Learn what a “space boffin” is.
Turning the conversation, they discuss Sue’s personal work and writings for Wally Funk. Obsessed with finding hidden women figures in history, Sue’s passion for selling a documentary on woman’s history finally was approved. Sue shares about the whirlwind of Wally’s personality and how they worked to present shows together. Clint and Andrew also ask about the other amazing and interesting characters that have been part of her career. Learn about Sue’s enjoyment of starting so early with the mission scientists on the Rosetta Mission, and the joys of walking through the journey with this team.
As the conversation draws to a close, Sue talks about her time at BBC and some of the most memorable moments for her. Listen to why she prefers radio documentaries and what there is to dislike about the “concept” of news. Don’t miss out on hearing her discuss some upcoming projects and keep a watch out for the ones she cannot yet reveal!
